Brain damage. Drug abuse. Broken bones. Death. This, ladies and gentleman, is a story about hockey. In just three articles, “Punched Out,” John Branch’s brutal New York Times’ piece on NHL player Derek Boogaard has ripped open a wound that the league would probably not want to talk about, especially considering that three players, including [...]

Foo Fighting
Here at Taylor, we do a lot of fun stuff as an agency. From tailgates to zip lining to bowling nights, there’s always a picnic or potluck on the schedule. In short, we like each other and we like to hang out together. It’s what makes work fun and what makes us different. Recently was [...]

One Nation Under Design
From OXO to Kohler and Herman Miller to Target, good design is at the core of many American businesses. But after a short list of the usual suspects, and a review of the usual products, what is the state of design in America? What exactly is design, where is design’s epicenter, and how do you [...]

The Power of a Mentor
Throughout college, I was an active member of the University of Northern Iowa Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Chapter (and if you are trying to figure out where you have heard of the University of Northern Iowa before, we were the school that upset your 2010 NCAA bracket when we beat Kansas). Taylor’s NY Company Picnic in Photos
Last week, Taylor’s New York office had its company picnic (a huge shout-out to Maeve Hagen for leading the organization of it!) at the NYIT de Seversky Mansion. Fun fact about the location: it was the setting for the 1991 movie Arthur. Some intense games of bean bag toss, ladder golf, soccer and volleyball happened on the lawn — an eye-opening experience of how athletic our staff really is! As it was a family event, there was also a puppet show, face painting and a cotton candy machine for the kids (of course, some adult staffers were spotted enjoying these activities, too!) Check out the pics after the jump.

20-2-2
This is a story about two of my favorite subjects: hockey and humans. First, hockey. If you haven’t noticed, the New Jersey Devils are the hottest team in sports, with a 20-2-2 record in the last 24 games. The flip side, unfortunately for Devils fans, is that for the first half of the season, [...]

Have Cicero Will Travel
Here’s how to spend your next vacation. Starting at the airport, as you’re about to take off, shut off your mobile phone, just like the airlines ask you to. Now comes the tricky part. Three hours later, after you land in a place (that better be at least 80 degrees), leave the phone off. Completely. [...]

No Ordinary Walk in the Park
You can’t force creative output. It has to flow organically, borne from knowledge and insight, and guided by a desired outcome. It applies to our brand planning process here at Taylor, and on a more personal note, when I delve into my passions for writing or photography. I needed a reminder of that recently. Heading [...]

Facebook: New Newsfeed, New Ads A few weeks ago, Facebook introduced a cleaner, simpler newsfeed design. Part of this re-design includes paid re-targeted ads appearing in your newsfeed. Data demonstrates that Facebook users spend a majority of their time engaging with content in their newsfeed. This means it is prime real estate for advertisers wishing to [...]
